Gemini now sits in a side panel in Chrome, next to whatever tab you're on. When we checked in September 2026 it could read the current tab, pull in up to 10 others, and on paid US plans click through multi-step tasks for you.
That's useful, and for anything on the open web it does more than Grais. Grais doesn't fill forms, compare product pages or book things.
Where they split is the reply. Google doesn't describe the side panel as a composer inside WhatsApp Web, Telegram, LinkedIn or Tinder. Grais drafts right there, in the signed-in thread, and remembers the person across those apps.
Browsers differ too. Gemini in Chrome is a Chrome feature. The Grais extension also runs in Brave, Edge and Arc, though there's still no Firefox or Safari build.
If you mostly want help with the page, use Gemini. If the hard part of your day is what to say back to one specific person, that's the job Grais is built for.
